HOW DO YOU KNOW YOU'RE SAVED?
What does it mean to be saved?
Being saved not only means you will go to heaven when you die, but you will also have God's Holy Spirit living within you while you are here on earth. The blessings you receive from that are immeasurable. Here's what you need to do to be saved:
A Admit You Are A Sinner
As humans we like to think we aren't as bad as the next guy. For instance, we think if we lie it isn't as bad as someone who has murdered or has committed adultery. But our standards are lower than God's. All sin separates us from Him. The Bible says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). That means everyone has done something that separates them from God - that is sin. The Bible says we need to repent of our sins. That means to be sorry, but it goes deeper than that. We need to turn away from our sin with the intention of never doing it again. So what is the next step?
B Believe in Jesus
Many people think Jesus was just a historical figure, a good man, or a good teacher, but the truth is He said He is God. So that makes Him either a liar or a lunatic if it isn't true. The proof that Jesus is God is that he died on the cross and was raised back to life, just as was prophesied in the Bible hundreds of years prior to His birth. One of the most convincing pieces of evidence is the actions of His followers. They were abused, beaten, imprisoned, and most were martyred because they refused to stop preaching and sharing that Jesus was the promised Messiah - the risen Son of God. What would make someone do that unless they were sure? Can you imagine how life changing it would be to see someone you loved and followed for 3 years die and then see Him alive again 3 days later, talk with Him, and even eat with Him? Jesus spent 40 days on earth after His resurrection appearing to around 500 people. Talk about a life changing experience for those people! Jesus sacrificed Himself on the cross and paid the price for our sins. He is God and didn't have to do that, but He loves us that much!
C Confess
Romans 10:9 says "If you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved". This is where it all comes together. Admit you are a sinner, believe Jesus is God, and confess it (or say it). By doing this you're allowing God to create a new heart in you and you will become part of God's kingdom.
If you need help with a prayer, you can say something like this:
Dear Jesus,
I admit I am a sinner - please forgive me.
I am sorry for my sins and I want to turn away from them.
I believe you died for my sins and were raised from the dead.
Please come into my life so I can have a new heart and spend eternity with you.
